How to Check If Your Shares Are in IEPF

Step-by-step guide to search and verify your unclaimed shares, dividends, and deposits on the official IEPF portal.

Why Check for Unclaimed Shares?

Millions of Indian investors have shares, dividends, and matured deposits lying unclaimed with companies. After 7 consecutive years of remaining unclaimed, these assets are compulsorily transferred to the Investor Education and Protection Fund (IEPF). The good news is that you can search for and recover these assets.

💡 Who Should Check?

If you or your family members invested in shares before 2015, received physical share certificates, changed addresses, or have inherited investments — there's a high chance some assets may have been transferred to IEPF.

How to Search for Unclaimed Shares & Dividends

Searching for unclaimed assets requires precision. Even a small spelling mistake can result in "No Records Found." Follow these expert steps to ensure a thorough search:

  1. 1. Visit the Official IEPF Portal: Go to the MCA IEPF portal (iepf.gov.in) and navigate to the "Search Unclaimed/Unpaid Amount" section. This is the centralized database for all investors.
  2. 2. Search by Investor Name (Flexible Search): Start by entering your first name only. If there are too many results, add your last name. Expert Tip: Try your father's or husband's name as a middle name if the record doesn't appear initially.
  3. 3. Search by Folio Number (Recommended): If you have an old share certificate, use the Folio Number. Ensure you select the correct Company CIN. Folio numbers are unique and provide the most accurate results.
  4. 4. Use PAN or DP ID: For shares transferred from a Demat account, you can search using your PAN or DP ID/Client ID. This is common for dividends that were missed after 2010.
  5. 5. Check for Multiple Companies: Many companies have merged or changed names (e.g., Satyam became Tech Mahindra). Search using both old and new company names to find all transferred assets.

🔍 Pro Tip: Search by Address

If you don't find results by name, try searching for other family members at your old ancestral address. Often, shares are registered under a different family member's name or a variation of the address.
